[What HPMPL is, and why it exists]
Background
Manufacturing costs in developed economies continue to rise, increasing the demand for outsourced manufacturing. Access to highly-skilled engineering labor is equally if not more expensive, making it out of reach for many businesses. Solutions to these rising costs have been addressed primarily through two different ways.
- Increased automation capabilities for manufacturing in developed economies: when the most significant factor driving cost increases is the cost of human labor, decreasing the required human labor through increased automation is an obvious solution. This requires skilled engineering.
- Outsourcing to less developed economies which are well-situated for manufacturing. China, for example, has built its economy around global outsourcing.
An engineering process outsourcing firm can help with the first by providing access to affordable engineering services and with the latter by assessing, vetting, and developing relationships with appropriate suppliers.
The key problem
Both of the above solutions tend to work better for large corporations than for small- to medium-sized business (SMBs)
- The machines which facilitate automation are expensive in themselves, and some degree of skilled labor is required to install, maintain, program, and operate them - and the degree of skill required increases with the complexity of manufacturing operations and the tightness of required tolerances. The more automation is facilitated, the more expensive the machines involved are. For large corporations, this is not inherently problematic. For SMBs, costs can often be prohibitive.
- Outsourcing is also easier for large corporations which can establish subsidiaries or send key personnel overseas as liaisons for long periods of time.

Teachers in India - at every level - are afforded enormous respect and prestige and are always addressed as 'Sir' or 'Ma'am'. Popularity in Indian schools veers towards the top academic students rather than athletes and cheerleaders, such that Indians are curious whether movies depicting the culture of American high schools are pure fantasy. [Possibly redundant with Why India] STEM degrees abound in India, with an astonishing number of engineering university students pursuing degrees in engineering and over a million engineering graduates annually. At the same time, the job market is highly competitive, such that graduates in mechanical engineering often start their careers in positions not usually associated with engineering degrees in developed countries: operating CNCs, assembling or fitting parts, etc.
- This creates a truly unique situation and opportunity in manufacturing which is difficult to comprehend in Western countries without understanding the cultural conditions which create it. Whereas higher education in engineering is typically only involved in the highest-level positions in places like the US, such educational accomplishment will typically be involved at all levels of producing parts and assemblies in India.

We are located in Pune, Maharashtra
- Pune is one of the top two manufacturing hubs in all of India, known especially for automotive, machinery, and industrial equipment manufacturing and precision engineering services, but possessing an extraordinary breadth of manufacturing capabilities. Pune forms a largely self-contained manufacturing ecosystem, identified by the government of India in a recent study as one of the few areas in India capable of producing an entire automobile or industrial machine entirely locally. Virtually every manufacturing process required by any client can be provided entirely locally, with a local supply of raw materials and stock which has evolved in conjunction with the manufacturing itself.
